ImageIn rebuttal to the person who wants to name a Vermont mountain, Brokeback Mountain, I've started a petition to name a mountain 'Escape to Witch Mountain Mountain.' Please sign my petition if you think having a peak in VT called 'Escape to Witch Mountain Mountain' would be cool. The Petition.

Naming a mountain after a movie...

...might be one of the silliest ideas I've heard in a while. Sure, I support gay rights, Annie Proulx (loved The Shipping News), and mountains, but like you (probably), I don't think we need to be branding our environment with commercial endeavors. Just about every civic center and stadium as well as some parks have already been branded, and corporations have been pushing to get into public schools ("this history class is sponsored by Coke, drink coke. Ok, kids, open your textbooks to page 127...") for some time now. Are National Parks next? This looked like a publicity stunt, but the idea isn't that off-base.

Seriously, if they were to name a mountain after the movie, wouldn't the mountain be called 'Brokeback Mountain' Mountain?
